Project: Crowborough Community Centre
Architect: Morgan Carn Partnership
Working closely with local Architects, Morgan Carn Partnership, Domicile Design Architects and Crowborough Community Association, we were invited to work on a new multi-functional Community Centre designed to meet the varied needs of the community of Crowborough.
The building site was sloping and with neighbouring buildings close to the boundaries, the shape, size and form of the structure was developed to maximise potential around the site constraints.
The structure itself, because of the sloping site has entrances at both floor levels. The lower ground and ground floors were formed from a combination of concrete and steel framing and the upper ground floor being a large open multi-purpose auditorium formed in laminated timber portal frames.
Our brief also included the design of all underground drainage which was developed to interface with drainage on and around the site serving the adjacent existing properties.
To aid the construction process and limit the impact on the surrounding community, we were instrumental in arranging temporary vehicular access off a very busy A road which, upon completion, was able to be removed and wholly reinstated to the original layouts.
